Si se logra pasar por alto el estilo tan pesado de la época y que el objetivo del libro es alabar a toda costa a Don Porfirio (un personaje de la historia muy polémico), el libro es muy interesante, sobre todo para ese momento de la historia de Monterrey en que empezaba a desarrollarse como ciudad industrial.

Se acaba el siglo XIX y el General Bernardo Reyes ha sido gobernador por los últimos 14 años y lo será por otros 12 más. Llegó el General Porfirio Díaz en el tren de la mañana y Monterrey ha preparado una fiesta de 5 días. La ciudad está llena de guirnaldas y arcos triunfales, habrá desfiles, excursiones, bailes y conciertos organizados, claro está, a la manera “regiomontana”.
