English: Map of railway lines relevant to Port Augusta and Port Pirie, South Australia, before and after 1937. In that year, a very long, circuitous and slow narrow-gauge route was made redundant by two new lines: a standard-gauge line north from Port Pirie and a broad-gauge line south from Port Pirie. Despite the advance in schedule times and comfort, the addition of two new track gauges at Port Pirie prolonged and worsened Australia's chronic break-of-gauge problems. |
