Summary[edit]

Description
English: Redmire Force at high water. These Teesdale Canoe Club paddlers have made a wise decision to portage Redmire Force, putting back in just below the falls river left - hidden by branches at the right of this photo. There is still a stopper to negotiate, visible as a line of aerated water behind the cyan boat and in front of the blue one. The usual line to run the falls is directly behind the head of the foreground paddler (yellow boat) and a confident paddler in a creek boat might well get past the stopper at this level, but if not, a rescue would be difficult to arrange - the line is too far for a throwline from river left, and river right bank is not accessible above the falls at this level. With this much water, the rest of the trip from Aysgarth to Wensley, often low, is at a very pleasant level. At a lower level, the 1189889 is a much safer proposition, but parts of the rest of the river can be a scrape.
