Summary[edit]
DescriptionReigate St Mary's Preparatory and Choir School - geograph.org.uk - 870110.jpg |
English: Reigate St Mary's Preparatory and Choir School Originally a private house, called Sunnyside (the wall plaque gives a building date of 1854), possibly built by a James Farquhar. For much of the first part of the 20th century it was the home of Godfrey Searle, a stockbroker, who founded the Reigate St Mary's Boys' Choir, funding education for the choristors at the nearby Reigate Grammar School. In 1950, the junior department was hived off as an independent prep school, and moved into these premises. In 2003, it was bought out by the Grammar School, now an independent secondary school, and now again serves as the junior part of that school, although operating independently. It is still a choir school, offering choral scholarships for boys, who sing at four weekday services per week in St Mary's Church, and weddings, funerals and other services elsewhere. |
