ביולי 2010, התקיים תרגיל משותף לחיל האוויר הישראלי ומקבילו הרומני בהרי הקרפטים. במסגרת אימון בתנאי שטח קשים במיוחד התרסק מסוק היסעור הצה"לי וכל יושביו נהרגו. בין הקורבנות היו ארבעה טייסי חיל האוויר סגן-אלוף (במיל') אבנר גולדמן, אלוף-משנה דניאל שיפנבאור, רב-סרן יהל קשת ורב-סרן ליאור שי, שני מכונאים מוטסים סרן ניר לקריף ורב-סמל ראשון אורן כהן, וטייס הקישור הרומני, רב-סרן סטפן קלודיוס דרגנה.
