Decorated gold medal on a yellow ribbon. The front of the medal features a crown with a ring of chain around it and the letters CG below. Around the edge of the medal are two rings with the text between them. The reverse features an image of tall skyscrapers of various styles and a circle with a stylised flower in it. The medal has a loop at the top with two metal rings that attach to a metal bar with a slot for the ribbon. The medal is in a wooden hinged case. In the National Historical Collection of the National Museum of Australia. |

| Object history | The Nova Peris Collection comprises fifty-three items relating to Nova Peris's sporting and artistic career. Peris was the first Aboriginal Australian and the first person from the Northern Territory to win an Olympic gold medal. She is one of the few people to represent their country at an Olympic level in two distinct sports, and is the first and only athlete to win Olympic gold in one sport (hockey) and Commonwealth gold in another (athletics). Peris is an active campaigner for Indigenous rights and reconciliation. She was awarded the Order of Australia in 1997. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
