Summary[edit]

Description
English: Rhiwbach Quarry from the Top of the Incline This incline was used for hauling finished slate from the large rectangular dressing shed UP to the external tramway. In all other quarries inclines were used to lower finished products and hence used gravity as a means of power. The hauling was done using power generated at the engine house, whose stack still stands. Rhiwbach Quarry, although remotely situated, operated between 1845 and 1952. The workers and their families lived on the site which contained a chapel cum school house and a shop. It was partly an open quarry with pits, some of which can be seen in the photo, and partly underground with as many as eight floors being worked. The site is now partly covered by forest.
