Description
English: Sign at the statue of the "Giant Romäus". It says: The "Giant Romöus", a local hero of Villingen, was a landsknecht and citizen of Villingen, that was named Remigius Mans. For some time he was imprisoned in the near Michaelsturm, why it was later renamed to Romäusturm. He was a Büchsenmeister under Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor. He fought in the Swabian War of 1499 on the castle Kussaburg. He died as Mercenary in the battle of Novara in 1513.
Deutsch: Tafel unterhalb der Statue vom "Riesen Romäus". Der Text lautet: "Der "Riese Romäus", ein villinger Lokalheld, war unter dem Namen Remigius Mans Bürger und Landsknecht in Villingen. Seine zeitweise Gefangensetzung im nahen Michaelsturm trug diesem später den Namen Romäusturm ein. Remigius Mans war Büchsenmeister unter Maximilian I. Als solcher hat er sich besonders im Schweizerkrieg von 1499 auf der Kussaburg hervorgetan, er fiel als Söldner 1513 in der Schlacht bei Novara."
