Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ripple marks are linear to irregularly linear to curvilinear ridges in sediments and sedimentary rocks (usually sands & sandstones). They form in one- or two- or multi-directional currents by wind or water. Asymmetrical ripples have a long side and a short side - they form in a one-directional current. Symmetrical ripples are evenly-shaped and form in a two-directional current in very shallow water by wave action.

The ripples shown here appear to be developed in quartzite (= metamorphosed sandstone).
