Summary[edit]

Description
English: Road to Barnhill It looks idyllic, but I bet it was a bleak place to inhabit. A view of Barnhill from the track above it where George Orwell wrote 1984 - it's a good 24 miles north of Craighouse, the only village on Jura, and even today the public road stops 5 miles south of here. He lived here sporadically from 1946 till his death in 1950.
