| Description |
English: Robert Hales, the Norfolk Giant This is the grave of Robert Hales, the Norfolk Giant, who was born in West Somerton in 1820. Accounts on the internet conflict but he reached the height of 7 feet 6 inches or 7 feet 8 inches, weighed 30 or 32 stone, and died in 1856, 1863 or 1865. Because of his size he was a famous touring circus attraction in Europe and America and met Victoria and Albert before settling in London to run a pub. He returned to Norfolk as his health deteriorated, died in Great Yarmouth and was interred in his home village by his "affectionate widow". |
