Der Wasserturm ist mit 43,5 Metern Gesamthöhe das von weither sichtbare Wahrzeichen Jügesheims. Er zeigt, obwohl erst in den Jahren 1936-1938 als Druck- und Vorratsbehälter im Zuge des Wasserleitungsbaus im westlichen Kreis Offenbach errichtet, noch deutliche Anklänge an die expressionistische Formensprache der 1920er Jahre. Der Hochbehälter aus Beton fasst 400 m³ Wasser bei einer Löschwasserreserve von 100 m³ und sitzt auf einem quadratischen Mittelteil mit sehr kleinem Grundriss und vier kreuzförmig angeordneten, nach unten abgestuften Tragpfeilern, wie sie oft an gotischen Kirchen zu finden sind. Mittelteil und Tragpfeiler sind aus roten Klinkern gemauert. Über dem Hochbehälter befindet sich die Turmstube, die durch eine schmale Treppe mit 170 Stufen, die durch den Wasserbehälter führt, begehbar ist.

Der Turm ist einer von acht topografischen Punkten erster Ordnung in Deutschland (wie z.B. auch der Feldberg im Taunus und die Zugspitze) und dient der kartografischen Vermessung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Der Wasserturm wurde bis 1979 als solcher betrieben und geriet danach zunächst in Vergessenheit. Als Mitte der 1980er Jahre der Abriss drohte, übernahm 1988 die Stadt Rodgau den Turm vom Wasserzweckverband und ließ ihn renovieren. Der Turm wird seither vom Verein "Freunde des Wasserturms e.V." genutzt und erhalten.
