Description
English: A bronze as of Septimius Severus, from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of Northamptonshire, sold separately and as Map 25 in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales... The illustration is a reengraving of Figure 10 in Tabula I Nummi Romani from William Camden's Britannia, Vol. I, p. 98.

Obverse: SEVERVS PIVS AVG BRIT· [Severus Pius Augustus Britannicus, Emperor Severus the Devout of British Fame]

Reverse: VICTORIÆ BRITANNICAE [Victoriae Britannicae, Of British Victory]

Camden's figure includes the exergue SC [Senatus Consultato, by Order of the Senate or with the Consultation of the Senate] on the reverse side. It is omitted by Moll.

Camden's note states "10, 11. In those of Severus and Geta, there is no difficulty."

Actual coin of the same issue, described as "Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ As (26mm, 12.59 g, 6h). “Victoria Britannica” issue. Rome mint. Struck AD 210-211. Laureate head right / Victory standing right, holding vexillum; on either side of her, captive seated right and left respectively. RIC IV 837a. VF, green patina with earthen dusting, old scratch in field on obverse. Rare." Actual coin of the same issue, described in Italian as "Settimio Severo. Æ as. (26 mm, 12.59 g, 6 h). Zecca di Roma. Emesso nel 210-211 d.C. SEVERVS PIVS AVG BRIT, testa laureata a destra / VICTORIAE BRITANNICAE, la Vittoria drappeggiata ed alata stante verso destra regge un vexillum con entrambe le mani; ai suoi piedi due prigionieri. S. RIC IV 837a."
