Summary[edit]

Description

Eudokia, from Le Christ couronnant Romanos et Eudoxie.
Constantinople, ivoire, vers 945-949. H.: 24,6 cm /
Département des Monnaies, Médailles et Antiques, Bibliothèque Nationale de France.

Until 1926, the couple was identified as Romanos IV Diogenes (1030—1072) and Eudokia Makrembolitissa. It is now thought to depict Romanos II (938—963) with his 1st wife, Bertha of Italy, who took the name of Eudoxia (Eudokia). They were married in 944-949.[1]
