Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Royal Avenue, Belfast (detail). Royal Avenue came into existence after the demolition of the old streets and alleys around Hercules Place in the 1880's. The buildings were on a grand scale. Some have subsequently been demolished and replaced (notably the old Grand Central Hotel and the "GPO") to make way for the Castlecourt shopping centre). The buildings on the eastern side between Rosemary Street and Castle Place have survived as have this couple who spend their time watching the passing shoppers. See also 1134370.
