Summary[edit]

Description
English: The grave of Sir John Rutherford Alcock, KCB (1809-1897), first British ambassador in Japan, and his wife Lucy, adjoining the grave of Sir Lewis Pelly, located on sloping and unstable ground at the northern edge of the churchyard at St Katharine's Merstham. Showing a kerb surround plot with a cuboid chest surmounted by a tall cross bearing floral motifs. Image taken as part of a larger survey of inscriptions at St. Katharine's.
