[edit]DescriptionSL&SF 1621.jpg |
English: 1621 is a "Russian" 2-10-0 decapod. These were the standard freight locomotives of the Imperial Russian railways before the revolution. Because of the fall of the Tsar and the power shortages of the First World War the United States Railroad Administration (or USRA for short) requisitioned them and dealt them out to assorted US roads. Some slight modifications were required to fit them to standard gauge rails, and US roads weren't always that pleased with them, since they were rather light locomotives by domestic standards. But they served admirably in branch freight and yard capacities, frequently being sold to industry (as was this example) and working nearly to the end of steam. |
