Collégiale Saint-Aignan et le château. La collégiale Saint Aignan, édifiée entre le XIème et le XIIème, est en pur style roman. L'abside, le sanctuaire et le transept surmonté de son clocher central datent du XIe siècle. La nef atteignant une hauteur de 16,4 mètres est supportée par 8 colonnes à chapiteaux. Vendue aux enchères à la Révolution, la collégiale est rendue au culte en 1800. En 1870, un beffroi fut construit afin d’abriter les cloches. De l'ancienne forteresse il reste la tour Agar (XIIe siècle) qui forme angle de l'entrée ouest. Le château actuel fut reconstruit au XVIe siècle par le duc de Beauvilliers, comte de Saint-Aignan. Au XIe siècle, Geoffroy de Donzy, seigneur de Saint-Aignan est fait prisonnier par Foulques Nerra. Le comte d'Anjou, Foulques Nerra, fera conduire son prisonnier à Loches où il le fera étrangler en 1030. (La Chorographie du département du Loir-et-Cher par Antony-Genevoix - Blois 1844). En 1496, la terre de Saint-Aignan est apportée en dot par Louise Husson, dame de Saint-Aignan, à Emery de Beauvilliers baron de la Ferté-Hubert. En 1537 (ou 1541?), la baronie de Saint-Aignan fut érigée en comté par François Ier. La seigneurie de Saint-Aignan fut érigée en duché par Louis XIV pour François-Honorat de Beauvilliers (1607-1687), Gouverneur lieutenant général de Touraine, capitaine gouverneur de Loches et Beaulieu, poète et de l’Académie française. par la suite au Prince de Chalais qui y fit faire la plupart des restaurations actuelles. En 1930, château fut propriété du comte de la Roche-Aymon. |
