Saint Roch in Godescard's book The Lives of the Holy Fathers & Martyrs engraved by Hopwood

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Saint Roch of Montpellier (1350-1378) was a French pilgrim and miracle worker who lived in the dark times of the Hundred Years' War and the epidemics of the Black Death. He left no writings, no speeches but he notably relieved plague victims. He is depicted with a dog who brought him food. He was imprisoned by mistake and thus died at the age of 30 in the odor of holiness.

Godescard (1728-1800) was the French translator of the English author Alban-Butler's <<The Lives of the Holy Fathers & Martyrʂ>>
