Description
English: Image of shepherding satellites of Saturn's F ring: Pandora and Prometheus. This image was taken by the Voyager 2 spacecraft on August 15, 1981. The satellites shepherds, through its gravitational interaction, confine the material of the intermediate ring on a narrow strip. Because of the differential rotation of the satellite, Prometheus, the inner satellite orbits occur faster separations and common approaches with a period of 25 days. In this picture both were only about 1800 km away.
Español: Imagen de los satélites pastores del anillo F de Saturno: Pandora y Prometeo. Esta imagen fue tomada por la sonda Voyager 2 el 15 de agosto de 1981. Los satélites pastores, por medio de su interacción gravitatoria, confinan el material del anillo intermedio en una franja estrecha. Debido a la rotación diferencial de los satélites, Prometeo, el satélite interior orbita más deprisa produciéndose alejamientos y acercamientos comunes con un periodo de 25 días. En esta imagen ambos se encontraban a tan sólo unos 1800 km de distancia.
