Title
English: Saxon Coins
Description
English: A silver sceatta of Edbert of Northumbria, one of the Saxon coins decorating the margins of Moll's map of Huntingdonshire, sold separately and as Map 24 in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales..., copied from Figure 5 of Tabula I Nummi Saxonici on Page 135 of Obadiah Walker's "Notes on the Saxon Coins" appended to the English translation of William Camden's Britannica.

Notes:
Legend: E·OTBEREDTVΓ· [intending EOTBEREhTVS, Eotberehtus, Edbert]
Walker's note states "5. The fifth, Eadberht was the name of two kings of Kent, and one of Northumberland. Which of these coined this money is uncertain. His name (as too many of those of our ancient kings) is diversely written, as Edbert, Eadbert, &c. The reverse (a dragon) if yet it be a dragon (v. Tab. 1. Sect. 3.) was an ensign used by divers of the northern princes; this seems copied from one of Antiochus Epiphanes. The Romans from Trajan's conquering of the Dacians used it also; but theirs was in the form of a great serpent, and not of an imagination as this is."
London: Sold by H. Moll over-against Devereux-Court in the Strand; Tho. Bowles, Print and Map-Seller near the Chapter-House in St. Paul's Church-Yard, and J. Bowles Print and Map-Seller over-against Stocks-Market. 1724.
