Summary

[edit]
Description
English: As seen in March 2021. Erected in 1909 along with the Dairy Products Building as one of the first purpose-built structures on the New York State Fairgrounds, the Science & Industry Building (originally called the State Institutions Building) is seen at right. It was the work of the Buffalo architecture firm of Green & Wicks and sports a design that's essentially identical to the lateral wings of the Center of Progress: on the main façade, engaged Corinthian columns with ornate capitals frame an entrance whose expansive windows provide for ample natural lighting, with side walls featuring another engaged colonnade. The rear, seen here, is simpler but no less monumental, centered on a massive double arch that encloses both a secondary entrance as well as an ample expanse of glass that floods the building with natural lighting. The Science & Industry and Dairy Products Buildings are connected via a grand colonnaded loggia (left and center), and together ably exemplify the Neoclassical style favored by the firm during the era.
