[edit]DescriptionSecond Baptist Church - Washington, D.C..jpg | Second Baptist Church located at 816 3rd Street NW in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Founded in 1848, Second Baptist Church is the city's second oldest African-American Baptist congregation. Construction of the current church building was completed in 1894. Designed by local architect Appelton P. Clark, the building is an example of Victorian Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The site's original church building, constructed in 1856, served as a stop on the Underground Railroad and hosted famous speakers such as Frederick Douglass. |
