Summary[edit]

Description
English: Steel engraving of the naval battle of Lissa in the Adriatic Sea (07/20/1866) between Italy and Austria. Depiction of the sinking of the armored frigate Re de Italia (front right) after being rammed by Archduke Ferdinand Max. The chance success of the Austrian admiral Tegetthoff led to a temporary revival of the ramming technique known from antiquity in naval warfare. Fields above left and right, detailed representations of the water drive.
