English: German-occupied Bydgoszcz. Headquarter of the “Selbstschutz Westpreussen” – Pomeranian branch of so-called "Volksdeutscher Selbstschutz". It was a paramilitary formation composed of members of the German minority in pre-war Poland. Between September 1939 and April 1940 Selbstschutz - together with other Nazi-German formations - murdered tens of thousands of Poles in Pomerania. This photo depicts warehouse with items which was stolen from the Selbstschutz’s victims. During the second world war this photo was placed in so-called "Album of fame of Selbstschutz" (known also as "Alvensleben Album"). After the end of war this album was found and taken over by the Polish authorities. It is now in the archives of the Commission for the Investigation of Nazi Crimes in Poland.
