Description Along the Karakoram Highway, Xinjiang, China. We were on the way to Lake Karakul, but the best part of that daytrip was not the lake (which was stunning in itself), but this untouched vista known by the locals as Shashan (沙山) and Shahu (沙湖), the Sandy Mountains and Sandy Lake.
