Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sheepfold, Trottingshaw Circular dry stone sheep enclosure as seen from the Herring Road, an ancient route running South from Dunbar to Lauder. It was originally used to transport a stock of salted herring for winter use in the Borders. Records of inland trade in fish go back as far as the middle 17th Century when as many as 20 000 people gathered in Dunbar for the herring fishery.
