Summary[edit]
DescriptionSheiling, Glen Tarken. - geograph.org.uk - 48597.jpg |
English: Sheiling, Glen Tarken. Cattle are still grazed in this glen in the summer, but the farmers live by the lochside below. Once folk spent the summer up here, and the remains of simple houses are still visible from the days of transhumance.
I met a farmer in Cannich in 1984, he still drove his cattle to a summer dwelling in Glen Affric. This may have been the last case of Transhumance in the Highlands. It was not that long ago. |
