English: Side, Newcastle upon Tyne. A panorama of the Black Gate 889020 and the street simply called, Side 574103
The street itself dates from 13C to 15C and had shops for merchants, drapers and other trades on both sides. http://www.twsitelines.info/Siteline.nsf/SMR/933AABBE74DA3F4480257638004E7F5E?opendocument The current buildings, now only along one side of upper Side, were built along with Milburn House on Dean Street, as offices, in 1905. The spire of St Nicholas Cathedral can be seen to the right of the Black Gate. On the far right of the panorama is the main railway line, eventually taking trains north, with the Medieval Dog Leap Stairs descending to the bottom of Dean Street between the embankment and two C18 houses on Side.
