Siderostat mechanical design with beam exiting through base plate

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Siderostat mechanical design with beam exiting through the base plate. The mount is grey, the two mirrors are green, the motorized altitude and azimuth axes are red, and the light beam is blue. The horizontal altitude axis is is attached to the mount. Mirror M1 is first hit by the star light, reflects it 90 degrees to M2, which reflects it anti-parallel to the azimuth axis. M2 is centered on the azimuth axis such that the beam has a stable direction for any set of rotation angles of the two axes. The azimuth axis is driven by an off-axis motor (pinion for example) such that the beam stays centered on the azimuth axis. The field of view is limited by the width of the base plate as seen from M1.
