English: Sir Hugh Myddleton, Islington Green Sir Hugh Myddleton (1555 - 1631) was an MP and the King's goldsmith. He was responsible for the building of the New River which supplied London with a much-needed fresh water supply. This statue at the southern corner of Islington Green was inaugurated by William Gladstone in 1862. |
