Provenance:

  • Probably painted for the sitter in 1663-5;
  • first recorded in a wardrobe in St James's Palace in 1688 (no 1191);
  • in the Queen's Dressing Room in Windsor Castle in 1710 (no 77) and until 1778;
  • it was moved to the King's Dressing Room at Windsor by 1792 and Old State Bedchamber by 1813, where it also appears in Pyne's illustrated Royal Residences of 1819 (RCIN 922106).
