Summary

[edit]
Description
English: site of Blackburn Childrens Home. Back in the days when the air of Blackpool was visibly cleaner than the air of Blackburn (because of dark satanic mills such as India Mills just outside Blackburn) many convalescent homes were built on the coast. This is the former Blackburn Children's Home which stands near the Thursby Home in an isolated location in the sand dunes north of St Annes on Sea, Lancashire, England. The Blackburn Home had become progressively more derelict since it was vacated in 1976. Despite a local campaign to have it demolished (http://www.defendthedunes.org.uk/threats_development.htm and http://lsacivic.org/archive/newsletter_04_02.htm ) to allow the dunes to revert to their natural state, the site is now being redeveloped as 18 luxury apartments. I like http://www.sueathome.co.uk/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=the_blackburn_home&id=b4351 with Sue's blonde hair attesting to what it is like here when the wind gets up! See this image for the two homes together.
