Summary[edit]
DescriptionSite of Former Blast Furnace, Beck Hole - geograph.org.uk - 166017.jpg |
English: Site of Former Blast Furnace, Beck Hole. This speculative venture lasted only for about a year in the 1860s probably due to the poor quality of the locally extracted ironstone. Most of the stonework has been robbed and reused. The iron works consisted of two blast furnaces. Under the trees in the distance can be seen two clumps of what appears to be slag. These are the bosh, the base and the hottest part of the furnaces. The stone in the foreground are all that's left of the associated buildings. |
