Summary[edit]

Description
English: Site of the High Rake Lead Mine There is quite a lot to see on this site which has also been excavated in recent years. The mine opened in 1834 but was worked for only 18 years and was seemingly doomed from the outset. In addition to other operating problems, the mine was situated above a plug of volcanic igneous rock which prevented access to the lead ore beneath. Overall losses totalled nearly £13,000 when the mine was finally closed.
