| Description | The first of January used to traditionally be for me the day for visiting Didcot Railway Centre for the first steam day of the year, often in freezing cold weather with frost and sometimes snow. Telling the chap in the office that it was your birthday that day (he never asked for proof despite more then 10 of us queuing all sharing a birthday) would get us a cab pass each and then we could take turns to warm up in front of the firebox of a hall or some other loco on the main line. Since Didcot became a little more difficult to get to, this year I have managed to renew the tradition with a visit to Swanley New Barn railways New Years Day charity steam up instead. Here, 2-4-4 tank locomotive No. 4 named "Siusaidh" and engineered by P. Beevers in 2007 is seen on the turntable before returning to collect its coaches. Thanks to all for a lovely afternoon particularly enjoyed by the family. |
