English: A gold solidus of Clothar or Chlothar II (r. 613–629).
Obverse: CN LOT ARIVS AVC [intending CHLOTARIVS AUG, Chlotharius Augustus, Emperor Clothar] Reverse: CLOTARI or CLOTARII VICTVRIA [intending CHLOTARII VICTORIA, Victory of Clothar] The reverse inscription copied earlier Roman models and was in turn copied by later coins, particularly closely by the Audulfus Frisia triens.Français : Solidus de 20 siliques au nom de Clotaire II (613–629).
Avers : CN LOT ARIVS AVC buste diadémé et drapé à droite. Revers : VICTVRIA CLOTARI croix latine au pied potencé, posée sur un globe, accostée des lettres A et M et le globe accosté des chiffres X et X, dans un cercle perlé. Le trésor de Wieuwerd contenait au moins une dizaine de sous de Clotaire montés en pendentifs dont neuf conservés au Musée d’Utrecht. Voir Lafaurie et autres, 1961, p. 78-107. A. Pol nous a indiqué qu’un exemplaire de mêmes coins que celui que nous présentons est conservé au Musée de Liverpool, trouvé dans l’Est du Kent avant 1857. |
