Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sound Mirrors Built as a listening device between 1927-30 there are three in total designed to pick up the sound of enemy aircraft crossing the channel. They were made obsolete by the invention of radar and have stood here ever since. Threatened for a while by the excavation of ballast from nearby gravel pits they were saved in 2003. Access to them is via the track bed of the former New Romney branch line and then by causeway into the centre of the water. However, the trail stops at a gate allowing viewing but not up close. However, there are open days when the public are allowed onto the site, usually over the summer with the three coming up during 2009 in July, August and September. See http://www.greatstone.net/history/sound_mirrors.htm for details.
