English: South Yardley Library seen on Yardley Road in South Yardley, Birmingham, England.
Possibly built in 1938. Doorway sculpture by William Bloye. This frieze shows two flying putti, delightfully rounded with blank eyes and a shock of hair, holding an open book bearing the inscription. Their bold, simplified carving complements that of the primitive styled columns supporting the portico and continued above it as decorative features. Bloye completed the frieze for the library, designed by J.P. Osborne, by the end of 1938. (1) |
