| Description |
English: The Southern Railway car "Catawba River," named after a river who inturn was named for a tribe of Native Americans. The Catawba River rises in the Appalachian Mountains east of Asheville, and flows east and then south through the Piedmont region of North Carolina and into South Carolina. In South Carolina, the Catawba flows into the Wateree River. Most of the 220 mile long Catawba River is now a series of impoundments for flood control and hydroelectricity production. Southern Railway trains ran through the region where the Catwaba flows. The car "Catwaba River" is a sleeper car, built by Pullman Standard in 1949. The car also ran as Southern No. 2003. After service with Southern, the car went to Amrak as No. 2864. In 2010, the car was at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. The car was assigned Amtrak private car number 800063 |
