Summary[edit]
DescriptionSouthern portal of the northbound Blackwall Tunnel - geograph.org.uk - 1572332.jpg |
English: Southern portal of the northbound Blackwall Tunnel The date on the brick portal over the top of the slip road descending to the tunnel mouth proper is 1897. This original tunnel is now used for northnound traffic only, a newer tunnel carrying southbound traffic a short way to the east. the structure was probably intended to echo the architecture of Tower Bridge, previously the most easterly fixed river crossing before this one. |
