English: Southwell, the Saracen's Head, after Francis Frith Taken to show how Francis Frith's views from 1934 and 1955 http://www.francisfrith.com/search/england/nottinghamshire/southwell/photos/southwell_86106.htm and http://www.francisfrith.com/search/england/nottinghamshire/southwell/photos/southwell_S564010.htm look today.
This picture is based on the 1955 view; getting the 1934 view would have been difficult because of the umbrellas. The obvious change is the willingness of patrons to sit outside. This would not have been dreamt of in Frith's era. |
