English: Sowerby Bridge 1st railway station (site), Yorkshire Opened in 1840 by the Manchester and Leeds Railway, soon to become part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, this station closed to passengers in 1876 when it was replaced by a new station. A goods station carried on at this location into the 1960s. View west towards Luddenfoot and Manchester. Part of the site was occupied by a supermarket when this image was taken. The current station is some 350m behind the camera position. |
