English: Relief of the coat of arms of Richard Clarke on his ledge stone in St Mary's parish church, Marlingford, Norfolk. St Mary's Church, Marlingford, Norfolk, relief of coat of arms on ledger stone of Richard Clark (1630-1682) "Generosus Medicus et Pharmacopeus praestantissimus" (gentleman, physician and most outstanding chemist) and of his wife Susanna Cotes (d.1722) , who died March 10th, 1722. The inscription states that he was "as one might expect the faithful servant and companion to that great Aesculapius of Norwich Sir Thomas Browne" (Sir w:Thomas Browne (1605-1682) of Norwich), with whom he is known to have "collaborated in anatomical exercises on a dolphin" (Sir Thomas Browne: A Life By Reid Barbour, p.416[1]). Arms: Argent, on a bend between three roundels as many martlets (Clark) (given with tinctures: Argent, on a bend sable between three pellets as many martlets or (Brit.Library, Norfolk, ii, 458, only it is there "mullets"); impaling: Per pale, two dolphins haurient respectant (Cotes); Per pale or and sable two dolphins endorsed counterchanged (BL Norf. ii. 458.) Crest: An eagle's head between two wings erect.
