Summary[edit]
DescriptionStatue of Richard Baxter, Kidderminster - geograph.org.uk - 1021441.jpg |
English: Statue of Richard Baxter, Kidderminster The famous English Puritan cleric, Richard Baxter (1615 - 1691), lived and worked in Kidderminster between 1641 and 1661. During the Civil War, he was a chaplain in the Parliamentary army and after the Restoration he became a royal chaplain.
In 1875 this commemorative statue was erected in the town, originally located in the Bull Ring. Today it stands close to St. Mary's - the parish church of Kidderminster. I remember long ago singing one of his hymns, "Ye Holy Angels Bright" with great gusto, it being one of my favourites at the time! I'm not sure the tune I know is very 17th century so I'll look into that. |
