Summary[edit]
DescriptionSteam traction engine, Gore Cross, Wiltshire - geograph.org.uk - 535524.jpg |
English: Steam traction engine, Gore Cross, Wiltshire The spirit of the late, great Fred Dibnah lives on! The team got going shortly after I took this picture. The gentleman in the brown cords obscured a sign on the trailer that said 'Marmite truck'. If only all days could be like this; beautiful weather, no-one in any rush, and a scene that could only be English.
Update May 2009: I recently heard from the 'gentleman in the brown cords', who is actually a local farmer. He very kindly provided information and a link to another website enabling me to identify this as a Burrell Traction Engine built in 1915 and bearing the registration number BP 6141 http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/?pc=/events/2007/great-dorset-steam-fair/838/ When I photographed the engine it was on its way to the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2007 images of which can be found here https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/ST9210?by=class |
