Summary[edit]

Description Portland, Oregon: Sign alerting cyclists and pedestrians of a temporary closure of the lower level of the Steel Bridge, which carries (since 2001) a walkway next to the railroad right-of-way. The 1912 bridge's lower deck can be raised independently of the upper deck, so when only the lower deck is closed, pedestrians and cyclists can use the upper deck to cross. When the photo was taken, the lower deck was raised to allow a sailboat to pass underneath. The sign's two yellow/amber lights flash alternately, left, then right, and so on.
