Description

Stegosaurus stenops Marsh, 1887 - stegosaur dinosaur dorsal plate from the Jurassic of Utah, USA. (DNM 1105, Dinosaur National Monument, Utah, USA)

Stegosaurs were herbivorous, quadrupedal dinosaurs having a small head, a series of dorsal plates, and defensive spikes at the tip of the tail. Juveniles were bipedal (known from footprint evidence).

Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Dinosauria, Ornithischia, Stegosauria, Stegosauridae

Stratigraphy: Morrison Formation, Kimmeridgian Stage, Upper Jurassic, ~150 to 156 Ma (possibly the Carnegie Quarry Sandstone of the Brushy Basin Member)

Locality: unspecified, but possibly the Carnegie Quarry, Dinosaur National Monument, northern Uintah County, northeastern Utah, USA
