Summary[edit]

Description

This is the start of the walk up Box Hill, a scenic National Trust spot in Surrey overlooking the Downs.

Box Hill is a well known beauty spot in the North Downs of Surrey, England, close to the southern outskirts of London, overlooking Dorking to the south-west. There is a small village of the same name about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) to the east. The hill is named after the box trees which can be found on its steep southern and western flanks, notably around the "Whites", chalk cliffs cut by the River Mole - which you can see in the picture.

This stepping stone is a very busy place and in summer it's almost impossible to find a quiet moment in which to take a photo! The funniest thing is when walkers with dogs cross the stones - half the dogs run up to the stones, brake suddenly and then give an incredibly quizzical 'and what am I supposed to do now' look, whilst the other half just leap in the water. Great fun =)
