Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Stinkhorn (Phallus impudicus). Stinkhorns grow in rotting wood and develop from round structures called 'eggs' > see 544864. Instead of using air to spread their spores (like most other mushrooms), the stinkhorn produces a sticky mass containing spores on its tip. This spore mass has an odour similar to carrion and it is highly attractive to flies. Spiders benefit from the stinkhorn's properties and can often be found in close vicinity, waiting for insects to get caught in their webs > 557460 For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinkhorn
